Parent Teacher conference at Elementary School

Tuesday was the day of truth. Kerri was extremely concerned and nervous. I began to get a little worried at what I might find out during that 2:45 appointment, but I forced myself to stay positive - a feat Kerri was failying miserable.

Kadi's appointment was first, and WOW. Her teacher, bragged on her the entire time. She recommended her for PACE, so she will be tested in the spring. She shared that Kadi is always positive and in a great mood everyday! What a compliment! She is reading on a 5.3 grade level, and her TEKS test was off the charts! And, her grades weren't bad either. Check this out:
Reading 99
Language 94
Spelling 101 (nope, not a typo)
Math 96
Science 98
Social Studies 99
PE 100 (up from a 97 so all the issues are resolved with her being counted off for *not being able to crab walk)
music 100
Citizenship (conduct) E
Isn't that amazing?
On to the 4th grade hall. Kerri really has me concerned at this point; she has already called to ask me what her teacher said. I don't know, Kerri. How about you tell me? She of course says nothing and hangs up quickly. The pit of my stomach quickly finds itself on the floor.
I sit down and brace myself for who knows what. First the normal chit chat. She is a great student, extremely polite, here are the notes from the other teachers. I read -- she is reading on 7th grade level, has lots of AR points, great comments from all the other teachers. UGH OH. Her report card must be bad. I can't think of any reason Kerri wouldn't want me to hear all of this. All Positive Reports!
The teacher whips the report card around. I honestly thought I saw her wrist click into place, from such abruptness, but soon I realized it was just my nervousness. All a's? Are you sure?
Reading 97
Language 99
Spelling 97
Math 92 (up a point - math makes her head hurt) :)
Science 90 * more to follow on this
Social Studies 97
PE 100
Music 100
Citizenship E
Can you think of any reason why Kerri might be so worried about this conference? No! The teacher couldn't think of a thing. She opened her grade book - oh! Kerri had a bad grade that she was asked to redo for a better grade that she didn't. It was science. So, yes, she is down 6 points from last 6 weeks. Don't you just love those guilty consciences? They will get you everytime!
I am extremely proud of the girls! They each have excellent work ethics - yet very different. Kerri is very slow and diligent in her work, and Kadi very quick, mostly does all her homework on the bus.
A trip to the movies to see Happy Feet is definitely in store!
Stay tuned for Cole's report. It will come home today.

Shriner's Visit this week.

KADI went to Shriner's Wednesday!!! Her appointment was scheduled at 10:30, so the plan was to leave Wednesday morning after Kerri caught the bus. Cole would be fine at home for 45min until his bus arrived. I guess I should have said "my plan" because Brian poked holes all through it! :) I hadn't thought about traffic through Fort Worth, much less Dallas during the 7 - 8am hustle and bustle. Ooops. So, a new plan formed. The kids would each spend the night (tuesday night) with a friend which would allow us to leave between 5am and 6am missing all of said traffic. Great! 5am? UGH. Better plan. Brian has been wanting to go to Shreveport and throw a little money away, why not let him and use it to my advantage? Travel to S'port Tuesday night and sleep until 8:30am. Done! :)

Kadi was is such awe. We stayed at the Horseshoe. She said on NUMEROUS occassions she didn't know it would be this nice! There was a TV in the bathroom -- it made her trip. No, my kids don't get out much and it doesn't take much to please them! lol

We ordered room service, which was a treat for Kadi. I could tell she was nervous. She has no recollection of Shriner's, yet she knows that is where she had surgery. She hasn't quite believed me yet when I tell her, she will not be having surgery.

We saw a new doctor, Dr Hommel, and I liked him sooo much better! Not that I didn't like Dr. McCall, but this doctor finally said the word - arthrogryposis - in relation to Kadi. McCall never would. The doctor and Physical Therapist were extremely suprised by her improvement -- in fact, very curious as to things I had done early on. Her right foot went to neutral fairly easily, but they had a hard time getting her left foot to neutral. I think it was 6 degrees off. They really wanted to put her in braces, but we asked for new excercises first to try. The braces would basically just be a way to help her keep from tripping/stumbling so often because of not getting her foot in neutral so easily. We don't think she will wear them, as she is so insecure right now about being "different" from her class mates. She would be the type to wear them to school and then take them off. They gave us 2 new stretches. So...we will do these 2 stretches 20 times holding for 10 secs twice a day. Basically 40 10 sec stretches. You know me, I will do it double! We will be doing those Morning, Noon, Afternoon and Night! It is still up in the air as to if she will have to repeat the surgery due to growth. We will do the stretches for 6 months and return.

We are scheduled to see the hand specialist on Dec 19th. This is what they suggested last time for the web spacing surgery that I declined. Well, Miss Kadi wants to "fix" her hands, so we will "talk" to the doctor. I told her I am not promising. Many of you know Kadi's biggest dilemna in her own little world is her elbows. She wants them to straighten more than anything. We were told today that there is nothing they can do to straighten the elbows.

And that my friends, is the Carleton News!

On another note, they did see a brand new patient yesterday, and have seen quite a few AMCers recently. He gave a number of different types of AMC that I hadnt' heard, but I will refrain from posting because hubby and I are disagreeing on the number. When I find out, I will post it. He said, there is research being done, but still no concrete cause. Darn the luck, right?

Boo

The Spooks Come out at Night!
We had a great Halloween this year! I think this was the first year that we haven't all gone to a costume party -- or two, but we were busy enough. We received our first "BOO" on the 20th, after our football carnival. The kids really enjoyed making treats and their list to "boo" to reciprocate the fun. Of course, they can't keep the secret, so everyone ends up knowing who boo'd who, which is totally against the rules. Oh well. Shelby and Patrick were so cute when they guessed that it might be us. Cute, cute kids! So they go trick or treating Halloween night as Bloody the clown, Miss Independant Jail bird, and the spit fire devil. What a mix! As always, they come home and dump all their candy into one big pile, throwing wrappers where ever they may fall, and running to the door to great the other trick or treaters! Enjoy the candy, kids! Dentist appointments are soon!
3-5 Record

Of course, it wasn't what we had hoped for, but the kids sure had a lot of fun! Cole had a great season, playing running back, full back, quarter back, and defense. He truly was a star! My star! He really showed his athletic ability and his desire to play football this season. Kerri had a great season as well. She made a lot of new friends and really enjoyed cheering. Kadi -- well, she liked being mascot when it was a cheer she liked; otherwise, you could find her under the bleachers playing pokemon with her friend, Drew.

Spirit week was a blast! The kids enjoyed an ice cream social and pinata the first of the week. Wednesday (the normal rest day), several of the boys used their free day to work hard to learn routines for Thursday pep rally. They dressed in cheer skirts tops, complete with wigs, and performed a cheer, dance routine, and stunt as they imitated the Cub (our opponant) cheerleaders. On Friday, they enjoyed dressing the coaches in toilet paper, wigs, and lipstick before they left to toilet paper each other's yards. They are still talking about all the fun!

They had lots of fans in the stands this season! Thanks for checking out the schedule online and coming! It makes them feel so special! Nana, Granda and Granpa all came to a couple of games, while Aunt Linda and Aunt Vi came also! We also had some dear friends that took time out to come watch them. Thanks!

Here are some pics for you to enjoy! Look close, you can see Aunt Linda and Aunt Vi in the background of the "please carry my bag" pic! Enjoy!

AMCSUPPORT

Hey all -

Last week, I was contacted by the arthrogryposis group about 2 vaccant board positions. They were taking nominations to fill these positions and said I had been nominated and asked would I serve on the board if I were voted in.

There were 8 nominations and most of these people have known each other for months upon months while I am a relative new member. I never dreamed enough people even knew my name for consideration much less anyone would vote me in.

Well, I was voted in! This wasn't something I went looking for; however, I feel God has sent this to me. I do feel this is God's Will. I am excited about this new venture as I have always felt a pull towards charity work, and I look forward to putting that energy into something near and dear to me as Arthrogryposis. I am passionate about spreading awareness for arthrogryposis, and have been working with a gentlemen at the March of Dimes for some time now -- Thanks Vi!

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions for me, please send them my way!

Our First Game

36-16

Bittersweet.

Cole had an awesome game! He score one of two touchdowns, and score both of our 2 point conversions. I was a proud mama.

I was a worried mama because he played the entire game. And I mean ENTIRE. He is our Kicker, our blue offense running back, our white offense quarterback, as well as plays defense and kick-off return. WOW! He got one break when he twisted his ankle -- only one play. He needs more rest than that! I tried talking to his Coach! HA! You would think I would get a say so being married to him, but no! That just put me farther down on the list with my complaints!

I was a sad mama because we lost. Those little guys played their hearts out and deserved to WIN! They had more first downs, more offense time, etc. But along with that, they had more mistakes.

The cheerleaders were phenominal. They pooped out on us towards the end of 4th quarter. It was an eight o'clock game, and they were tired! Kadi was a great little mascot! She looked really cute. I will post pictures soon!

So.....til next week

Missing keys, purses, wallets and remotes are daily occurances at my house. One would think we would get a system to alleviate this problem, but that would really be to simple for a family that seems to thrive on chaos. So, rather than put thoughts into a solution, we continue each day with feelings of annoyance, aggravation, and panic.

First, we are annoyed that someone would pick up the remote in the last 24 hours since we had it last, which soons follows by extreme aggravation for them misplacing it. Of couse, I never lose anything. It is always someone else. The aggravation soon turns to panic when object such as keys or wallets have not been located within a few minutes, even sometimes prompted meltdowns.

Meltdowns are seldom; however do occur. For instance when Kadi was Missing last school year. The feelings of annoyance and aggravation lasted all of 2 seconds while the panic came on strong and prompted the meltdown AFTER we found her. Or when my keys were lost in Grapevine and all of Nikki's things were locked in my car. It is safe to say that I freak out, while Brian calms me down and quickly looks for a solution. In fact I rarely see him in a panic. The first day of school this year was a rare day.

Once again we had a child missing for over an hour. At first, however, I didn't realize he was missing, so I quickly went through the annoyance stage in 2 seconds and lingered in the aggravation stage for an hour or longer. It was when I saw Brian in panic mode that I flipped. The 15 minutes before we found him seemed like an eternity.

It was a day of firsts. First day of school. First day of middle school for Cole. First day to take his cell phone to school. First day of football.

We had a plan. I always take and pick-up my children on the first day of school. This day was a first, and they each knew the drill. I didn't want him taking his cell phone to school, but he begged. His reasoning? If I need to call you or find you after school. Okay. But during school it must be on silent in your locker. Yes ma'am.

Fast forward to 3pm. I pick up my girls.

3:10 Sonic

3:20 - Middle School waiting on Cole

3:40 - Kids begin to come out side. Do not see Cole. Get voicemail when I call his phone.

3:45 - I get out of car to look for Cole. Still voicemail.

3:55 - Visiting with parents and Cole's friends about there day. Still waiting on Cole and still getting voicemail.

4:00 Ask everyone, Have you seen Cole? NOPE

4:03 - Finally find someone who saw Cole. Kid tells me Cole went on Bus. Voicemail.

4:05- I'm Aggrevated. Stuck in traffic without Cole. Cole's milkshake is melting.

4:10 - Brian calls. Hurry up and get home with Cole. We have to go to football early.

At this point, I am aggravated, but Brian is pissed because Cole didn't follow directions. Again, it is the first day of school Calm down Brian. I don't want to start our year off mad at him. It is okay. Now realize, I didn't have ANY sleep the night before, and just woke up from a nap. I am on auto-pilot.

4:20 - Brian calls. Cole is not at home. Once again, Calm down Brian. It is the first day, the buses are probably running a little late.

4:30 - I arrive home. Voicemail.

4:35 - I know Brian is mad. I tell him to go to football and I will bring Cole when he gets home. He screams at me, "my son is missing. I can't just go to football. What kind of dad do you think I am,"

Missing? He isn't missing. Wires got crossed and ...... you think he is missing? Brian calm down!

4:40 - Schools been out an hour. Bus drops kids off down the street and leaves neighborhood. Lots of kids. No Cole. Voicemail. Missing?

When we called the school, they said he wasn't in the office, but they would page him. After about 5-7 minutes, they alerted me that he didn't answer his page, so he wasn't at school. Good luck finding him.

What? That is all you have to say?

4:35 -4:45 - Bus barn number busy. Voicemail.

4:45 - Got reemed out by Brian because I didn't verify Cole was on the bus while at the school. I calmly ask, do we need to call the police? Let's comb the school first.

4:45 - Brian goes to school while I go to Bus Barn. Kerri is manning phones at home with strict orders to call me as soon as she hears from him.

4:55 - Brian found Cole.

He was at the school waiting on the bus with the principal. The bus was actually missing. His bus was over an hour late picking up kids at the school to take them home.

5:00 - I want answers.

Why was the bus an hour late? - They will take my number and call me back. They don't know.

Why did a bus drop kids off while some kids were left at school? That was the bus from the highschool, not middle school that I saw.

Why did the ladies in the office not know this to relay to parents? There were no other calls. The principal couldn't leave the kids to alert them.

Why was I the only parent calling? Everyone else had the fore thought to call their parents. Some parents work and they would be home alone until 5:30 or 6 anyway.

After tears, hugs, and kisses, we have a new understanding. Cole will be calling home from now on. Oh, and by the way, he said he asked if he could ride the bus and I said ok, sure. I think I am going crazy! :)

Dean Family Reunion

With Brian in Montana for his annual Manager's meeting, the kids and I thought we would go a couple of days early to Mimi and Papa's. We had a good visit, and I even took a couple of hours to visit with my dear friend Kelli, which I never do. I enjoyed seeing friends that I hadn't seen since I graduated. It was great fun.

After a couple of days, it was on to Louisiana. The kids and I stopped in Natchitoches at my cousin Angie's for a swim and a few laughs. The kids really enjoyed playing. Trey and Cole got along beautifully and have lots in common, while Kerri and Kara talked Girl Talk and colored much like Angie and I did as kids. Kadi took up with Kale and played Dinosaurs. You rarely knew they were around. Karsyn, well, I learned I can't ever take my eyes off him if Angie leaves him entrusted to me! :) He is a DOLL!!!

My grandmother, Nana and Aunt Denise came to visit and we all went to dinner. It was great fun! The kids love their NANA! Kadi even sold some candles for her Arthogryposis MC Support that she is raising money for. Kadi said, "They sure must love candles to buy all these." I assured her it wasn't the candles they love, but her. She smiled that heart melting smile of hers. Thanks Nana and Aunt Denise!

As we wake up for the family reunion, our week of relaxing and laughs comes to a halt. I should have known it was too good to be true. 7 kids in one house? It took us a while to get them all ready, but we were ready by 10am. Then....picture time!!! Aren't they cute???

We had to make a stop to let Kara and Trey out with their grandmother for the weekend, and to get drinks and ice, but we should have been to the reunion by 11 at the latest. It is only 30 miles up the road. HA! After the road closing, detours, and getting lost in Many, we are once again on our way -- we think??? There is no sign to tell us if we are on the right road. HOWEVER, a nice policeman decided to pull me over. ARGH! I don't need a ticket! That cute heart melting smile again states a matter of factly to the officer -- we're lost! Nice Kadi, please be quiet. Officer, I wasn't speeding. I was only going between 60-65 on a highway. O= Ma'am speedlimit is 55. Me= In Texas the limit is 70. You have no signs posted due to construction???? I didn't know. O= where are you headed. Me= I am trying to get to a family reunion etc, etc.

Anyway, thanks Kadi! He couldn't resist her smile, and he gave us directions. We are on our way! Drive, drive, drive. Finally, we see the hotel. We circle around. Shouldn't a family reunion have cars? Hmmm..... I ask. They direct me across the highway. LOOOOONNNNGGGG drive -- multiple miles. Lady in box stops me. I say I am here for the reunion. L= which reunion? Me= Dean. L= noone by the name. Me= Bundrick? L= No. (I try to call mymom -- no answer) Me=weaver? Margaret? They have to be here. L=No. Did you try across the way? You are the 4th car to come here looking for them. Me= SMILE thank you! Turn around. Drive. Drive. Phone rings. Angie=hey...when you get there, dad says they are hard to find. Me=really? smile! Angie=yes, at the hotel. Okay thanks. Go back to hotel. Nope, but I do find Dad's truck. no people. Call mom Once more.....aha...answers.....take the little dirt road behind the hotel! AH....PEOPLE!! yea! we made it! What great fun. We saw relatives I haven't seen since I was knee high. It was great to see Brian and Jennifer from Uncle Mac and Aunt Katie's family. It was great to see Barney and Joey and Kelley and their families. Aunt Linda and Uncle Danny. I sure missed Sarah, Josh and Jeremy. Maybe next time. It was Lots of fun. Kadi sold more candles for her trip -- thanks Aunt Lisa and Papa! Of course, it isn't a family reunion without a photo op. Here are some of my favs.

Cole Goes to Glen Lake

After picking Kerri up from camp on Sunday, we drop Cole off on Monday morning around 8am. When we arrive, we find his camp buddy isn't coming as his mom didn't get his forms in on time. We wait in a couple of long lines to get him moved from cabin 27 to 24 with his buddies Kyle (from church) and Brent (from baseball). He hates long lines, so I knew he really wanted to bunk with someone he knew!

No doubt, boys and girls are at separate ends of the spectrum. While Kerri was perfectly fine having Kadi, Cole and me hang around, Cole was ready for me to drop him at the corner. I finally convinced him that I could definitely make his bed better than him. Great, Mom got passed the door! Horay -- he wants a lower bunk! Mom is so happy!!Hmmm. But where is Cole? Oh, he is gone to play ball. I make his bed and try to get his stuff put away, and I am off. I round him up over by the tree and will him back to get his picture made by the door. I just had to have that photo. It took some sweet talking to get a smile! :)

After the ordeal with Kerri's camera and her "all of 5" pictures, I encouraged Cole to take LOTS of pictures! I even bought him TWO cameras! I had great hopes.

Time went quickly while he was away. The girls went to horse camp Tuesday through Friday during the morning. Between Kerri's gymnastics and Kadi's swimming, we kept busy during the evenings, as well. Of course, we paused occasionally to take bets on how many times Cole was going down that AWESOME slide!!! I was secretly hoping he was getting good pictures to document his stay.

Since the girls had their final day of horsecamp, Brian took a day of vacation to retrieve our son. He called immediately to say he had a great time and he would see me that night. He and dad had a day of golfing and shopping planned! They came home with pink shorts! WOW...a day to remember!

I rushed to the one hour development to see his camp experience. DARN! They made a camp out of hitting the camera hard and making it flash. I have lots of NOTHING pics, 2 of him lying on his back taking a pic of himself and all the others are of bunk beds. I will spare you from seeing all 10 bunkbed pictures and will just post a couple! :)

He had great stories of camp! Mostly he played basketball in the gym, but he made lots of friends. Of course, he didn't talk as much as Kerri about his experience, but occasionally he adds snipets. His video came in the mail last week which showed me lots of what they did. They had TONS of contests. I did find out he is somewhat shy and didn't volunteer for any of them. Just give him a basketball, and he is good!

Horse Camp - Wagon Wheel in Grapevine

The girls started horse camp yesterday once again! They have been talking all year about going back to Wagon Wheel to check on their camp horses, Maggie and Gwen. Kerri was excited to find Maggie is doing great. She really bonded with her "special" horse who is blind in one eye last year, so she requested to ride her again. Kadi was also excited to check on Gwen and her baby, only to find out Gwen was never pregnant (have no clue where Kadi got the idea she was) and that they sold Gwen. Bummer. After a minute of holding my breath and silently praying to God to help Kadi keep her emotions in check, Kadi's earth shattering pout quickly turned to a smile as she asked, "which horse do I get?" Thank you, Jesus. Shorty! What a great pair they should be!

The girls are paired with their helpers (Kerri - Breana/ Kadi - Ashley) and off they go to fetch their horses from the pens. Kadi walks up with Shorty, and begins the brushing process. She speeds through it as she is so anxious to lead Shorty to the arena.

Up walks Kerri. Something is wrong. My tough as nails, giddy with excitement little girl is crying crocdile tears. She swears Maggie doesn't remember her because she stepped on her foot and left it there for 15 secs. Remember, Maggie is blind? You have to stay out from under her. She recovers, and makes fast friends again! They struggle a bit getting Maggie ready for the arena, but they make it just in time for a couple of go 'rounds before the trail ride.

I was amazed at the things they recalled from last year. Kerri's helper is actually shorter than she is, and they had a bit of trouble with the saddle, but all in all, the girls did great. Kerri rode English, while Kadi rode western. Ah, my girls! So much alike, yet so different.

Today was another great day. Maggie and Kerri got off to a better start. They were fast friends today and Maggie obeyed every command. Kerri is so compassionate it makes my heart swell. Shorty tried to run away from Kadi; however, Kadi was a quick thinker and wrapped her lead rope around the pole when she realized she wasn't as strong as Shorty. Her instructer was extremely pleased. Great horse sense. Two other campers didn't fair too well as they both fell off their horses.

Kerri and kadi still have 2 more days of camp! check back for updates!!

Kerri goes to Camp!

Imagine the squeels. Imagine the bright, twinkling eyes. Imagine the broad, sweet smile. You know the ones I am referring to. She was in rare form as she bounced up and down with excitement as we pulled up to camp.

The family is sleepy eyed with the preparing, but not Kerri. She is raring to go. Hurry up! Boy did she turn bossy. We were a few minutes early, so we stood in line and visiting with a nice lady who lived in Marshall in the 80's. Her daughter was a couple of years older than me, and we were in dancing together. It is such a small world.

The doors opened, and in ran Kerri to more lines. It didn't get her spirits down. She once again begins her bouncing movements and the giggles as the shy little girls hiding behind their moms watch with interest.

She met Lexi standing in line, and her mother and I began to visit. They live in Graham, Texas and even know where the big town of Throckmorton is. Kerri informed them that her dad went to school there when he was a boy. What are the chances of meeting someone from Marshall and Graham within 10 minutes? WOW! What a camp!

Visiting seemed to make the line move quickly, and we were soon off to her cabin. Thank goodness for the internet, as I had pre-registered for most and avoided all the other lines! Go Mom!

Cabin 12 was the appointed home for Miss Kerri for the weekend. More squeeling as she walked in and noticed 10 bunkbeds! OH MY! That is 20 campers in one cabin! I am quickly imagining the squeels turning to grumps on my next arrival. Kerri chooses the top bunk of a bed all the way up next to the wall. Yes, it would be the hardest to make, but with a smile, I say no problem sweety, I will make your bed. :)

She quickly gets her suit on to go to the BIG SLIDE, and we are booted out the door with a kiss.

The car ride home was fairly quiet except for the occassional bet between Cole and Kadi. Kadi bet that Kerri went down the slide 50 times, and Cole bet 10 due to long lines. It would soon be determind via Kerri on the trip home that it was only 3 due to the long lines!

The weekend passes with swim meet for Kadi and Kidnapping for Cole, as well as Indy Races for mom and dad. It is once again time to pick Kerri up for camp.

Suprise! That sweet, precious giddy girl has turned into the red faced, crabby monstor sporting crocodile tears! Yep! No sleep in Cabin 12! We load her belongings as fast as possible, as I assure her she is not in trouble for breaking her face cleaner (Aunt Lisa - we need to order more) and that she will be much better after a nap.

She tells us great stories about Molly, Skipper, Elizabeth and herself riding the lazy river, sliding down the slide, attending Worship, taking Holy Communion, hiking, playing in the lake and on and on! She got the most emails of anyone at camp thanks to Mimi and Granda! The excitement was back, but with a slow southern sleepy draw! Night Night kerri! She was fast asleep before the left the camp grounds! I quickly checked her camara and was bummed that she took so few pictures. I will post them here.

Up next for Kerri: Horse Camp and Girl Scout camp. Check back soon for more summer highlights and pictures!

Kerri and Skipper walking to worship. (notice the syrup on her skirt! YMMM) I love this look on Kerri! So Sweet! I know they were having a BLAST!

Skipper (pink headband), Molly (short hair) & Elizabeth (blue shirt) Her hang out buddies at camp!

Elementary School is Over for Cole - May 26

School's Out For Summer!

Fifth grade has been just one big D - Different, Difficult, Damaging -- need I go on? Cole has struggled for a large part of the year, and while I place most of the blame on him, I do see flaws in our system. Brian and I step into the 5th grade hall for our regular parent/teacher conference on what I would call a normal day. Cole had prepared us that the news wouldn't be so swell. "Mom, I might have a B this time," he said. We can deal with that. And while we are sure he can do better, a B is still good, right? As we are waiting our turn, his gifted/talented teacher walks by and asks, did he pass? WHAT? Of course he did! Didn't he? As it turns out, 2 weeks prior he had 5 ZEROS in one week and had an "F" in the class. This is an "A" student who reads on a 12th grade level, who doesn't act up in class, who hadn't been absent, etc. Why wasn't I called? Obviously something is going on with him, but if I am not informed of the warning signs, I can't help him! Communication People! Oh, it's his responsiblity? Okay, let's just kick him out and let him get his own apartment all the responsibilty lies on him. He doesn't need me anymore, right? NOT!

These teachers expect them to perform at the collegiate level. No, I do not mean academically, but I do mean emotionally and psychologically. One day (fourth grade) they are given their assignments on a daily basis both orally and written on the board, and the next they are expected to check the board (that is located behind them, I might add) and write their assignment down without any reminders from the teacher. What? The comment was made that they do this everyday-- they should just know. They don't need to be reminded. Hmm. Not 3 minutes following that statement, the phone in the classroom rings. Who could that be? Oh, the cafeteria? It seems our ever so perfect teacher forgot to turn in her lunch count - AGAIN! Aren't you required to do this every day? Shouldn't you just KNOW WITHOUT ANY REMINDERS? You aren't in 4th grade any more! UGH! I was pulling my hair out.

Anyway, this stuff was not what I really wanted to get into, but once I get started, I just get so mad! I nearly ruined my relationship with my son in the 5th grade! Isn't that supposed to be what happens in high school? HA!

I told Cole, if you make it out of the 5th grade I am going to throw you the biggest party you want! And, he did make it! He even placed in a writers competion and got a trophy for this taks test! So...PPARRRRTEEE!

About 25 kids came to our house from 7-10pm. Dad hid out in the bedroom watching the Mavs play while I solicited chaperones to help me! Swimming, Dancing, and American Idol was on the agenda. We had an Idol King and Queen. The kids voted and Jackie was the proud recipient of the Queen's crown, while Mark was our King. I have never seen so many kids in a hottub in my life, nor do I remember dancing provocatively in the 5th grade! Yes, please pray for me as we enter Middle School! I am sure I will need it!!! PS I have pictures to accompany this, but can't seem to get them posted here. I will add them in an additional blog entitled Cole - May 26 pt 2

Kadi's Swim Team - June 3

Kadi joined the swim team!
Can you guess which swimmer is her?

As many of you know, Kadi decided not to continue with gymnastics as it was extremely difficult for her. She needs to be active to help her keep mobile and work her joints, so swimming it is! SHE LOVES IT! I was afraid she would complain that is was too hard -- they swim solid laps for 1 - 1 1/2 hours per day! WOW! I don't think I could do that! Her practice schedule is Monday - Thursday, and she has her choice to swim 7am-8:30am OR 7pm - 8pm. We usually try for the morning unless we have a conflict!
Meets consists of Medley relays, up to 3 individual events, and end relays. They last from 8-12ish.

She had her first practice meet on Saturday, June 3. She arrived at 7am to "warm up." It tires me just watching them swim. For the medley relay beginning at 8am, she swam the free stroke (front crawl) helping her team acheive 2nd place. She only competed in one individual event for her first meet and boy did I get scolded for that! (I signed her up earlier in the week). Her event was the 8 and unders 25M Free Style , and she did extremely well. I was one proud mama! Here she is reaching the finish line!
I am continously amazed at her confidence and self esteem! God sure made one special child when he created her! I thank Him each day for allowing me to be her mother!
Upcoming - she is continuing to work on improving her free style and breast stroke. She will learn the back stroke next. Say a prayer for her as she will be dealing with those internal rotated shoulders! I have no doubt she will conquer all!!!
I know Kadi would love for you to come to one of her swim meets if you can. Most of them are at the YMCA just down the road.
